Saint Swithun

St. Swithun

also: Saint Swithin, Swithun, Swithin, St. Swithin

Ninth-century Bishop of Winchester; English folklore holds that rain on his 15 July feast-day forecasts forty more days of it. Austen turns him into an offended patron, never asked leave for the summer races, who curses them with a month of rain.
