Mr. Watson

Emma's father, an ailing, gouty clergyman (the Rector of Stanton) who can rarely leave his fireside. His pleasure in Mr. Howard's preaching at the Visitation, and his dependence on his daughters, frame the household Emma has returned to; what becomes of his daughters after his death is the question the fragment breaks off before answering.
