Captain Henry Dashwood

Miss Jane's late husband, a naval or army captain killed fighting for Britain in America (presumably in the American War of Independence, 1775-83) after a seven-year secret marriage; their three children all died young. Austen reuses the exact name 'Henry Dashwood' for the unrelated father of Elinor and Marianne in Sense and Sensibility.
